Pretty Bird

There is an absolute enormous oak tree in my backyard. Whoever planted it decades ago didn't have the foresight to think that perhaps a less ambitious tree should be planted in such a dense urban setting. It towers over everything on the block, including the apartment buildings that it is slowly providing with more and more shade every year.

Anyway. I love that tree. With some careful observation, one can find an entire world of wildlife that takes shelter in that tree. It's been a little dull in winter avian-wise, but I have been seeing a pair of cardinals the past few weeks.

They are loud birds, with very distinctive chirps and whoops. I usually hear them a lot more than I see them, especially since the females are tree-brown in color and they are rather shy birds.

She does have a bright orange beak though. Oooooh, and notice the tree buds.

After chirping for a few minutes, this guy shows up:

And then they fly away to some other giant sheltering tree to have some privacy.

Nature. I get it where I can.
