Streets and Sewers

I think that it's very telling that the first touristy thing we decided to do was to tour the Paris Sewers.

I guess I can say it was part of the literary tour, as Victor Hugo wrote in Les Misérables of the revolutionaries escaping through the sewers. Really now, we couldn't have just gone to see where Quasimodo lived?

There were rats, and it smelled as you would expect a sewer should, but it really wasn't all that bad. Oh, and to clean the pipes out, they roll these giant balls through them to push everything along. And yes, there was a gift shop at the end of the tour.

More pretty Parisian scenes for you:

As we were wandering around the Hôtel des Invalides, we spied a game of bike polo being played.

We didn't have to walk for very long before justifying a break for light refreshments.
