When something happens in New York, you don't get too many idle passer-bys. People will stop and help when something like this happens.
The idea of a Mercedes (or any car) stuck in a manhole was just too much for passer-bys to bear. Opinions were voiced, the bumper hoisted, driving instructions shouted out.
Even the corner junkie came over to let everyone know he knew how to handle the situation, and then proceeded to tell the driver he was going about this all wrong.
Finally, success!
I love how the one guy held on to his starbucks the entire time he was helping.

The city just needs to fix that manhole cover already!
